Women’s Tennis Sweep Campbellsville to Advance to MSC Tournament Final

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The top-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team moved one step closer to a Mid-South Conference title on Thursday morning with a dominant 4-0 win over No. 4 seed Campbellsville (Ky.) in the tournament semifinals at the Warren County Tennis Facility.

The No. 3-ranked Blue Raiders (15-2) wasted no time establishing control, quickly grabbing the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. The No. 3 duo of Aina Domingo Bernabeu and Mariangeles Mateu, ranked No. 15 in the NAIA, blanked Valentina Curli and Miho Akita 6-0 to open the scoring. Lindsey Wilson clinched the doubles point at No. 2 as No. 8-ranked Anastasiia Ivanchenko and Mayra Gisone rolled past Andrea Ovejero and Juanita Quintero 6-1.

Doubles play at the top spot went unfinished with Anastasiia Vorobiova and Heyka Rodriguez narrowly trailing Campbellsville's No. 2-ranked team of Oriana Espinoza and Clara Asprella, 3-4.

In singles play, No. 5 Gisone doubled the Blue Raiders' lead to 2-0 with a clinical 6-2, 6-2 win over Jimena Palomo. Lindsey Wilson continued its strong performance at the bottom of the lineup, as Rodriguez delivered a commanding 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 6 over Akita, pushing the score to 3-0.

No. 15-ranked Vorobiova secured the clinching point at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ovejero, sealing the match at 4-0 and sending the Blue Raiders into Friday's championship match.

Play was halted once the match was clinched, leaving several tight battles unfinished. No. 16 Domingo Bernabeu was leading 6-3, 4-3 at No. 1 singles against No. 9-ranked Espinoza, while Mateu and Ivanchenko each had the edge in their respective matches.

With the win, Lindsey Wilson improves to 38-2 all-time against Campbellsville and remains undefeated in conference play this season.

The Blue Raiders return to action tomorrow in the MSC Tournament final, where they will look to capture their 19th MSC tournament title and secure an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship.
