Blue Raiders Fall to Cumberlands in MSC Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Blue Raider baseball team fell to the Cumberlands 22-6 in Bowling Green Ball Park on the second day of the MSC baseball tournament. 

Chance Stayton led the Blue Raiders at the plate going 3-for-4 with two stand-up doubles. Maddox Tarrence went 2-for-3, and led the team in RBIs with three. Clint Chappell picked up the loss, throwing 0.1 innings and allowing seven runs on five hits in eight batters faced.

Lindsey Wilson was held scoreless in the top of the first, tallying just one hit and stranding a single base runner. The Cumberlands capped the inning with 11 runs on seven hits and one Blue Raider error to lead 11-0.

Tucker Hagan drew a walk in the top of the second, bringing Drake Young to the plate. Young singled to third base, advancing Hagan to second. Amir Pineiro drew the second walk of the inning, bringing Tray Price in to pinch run at first. Tarrence hit a 2-RBI single up the middle, scoring Hagan and Young to cut the deficit to 11-2. Mason Malone entered as relief in the first inning, and gave up zero hits in the bottom of the second, holding the Patriots scoreless. 

Both programs went scoreless in the third inning. Hagan got the Blue Raider bats going again and led off the top of the fourth with a double to left field. Young singled to the shortstop, advancing Hagan to third and scoring on a throwing error by the Cumberlands shortstop, to chip away at the 11-3 lead. Pineiro drew a walk, bringing in Price to pinch run on first, with Young on second. Tarrence hit a ground-rule double into center field, scoring Young and advancing Price to third for an 11-4 deficit. Matt Schultz connected on a 2-RBI single up the middle, scoring Price and Tarrence, trimming the Patriot lead to 11-6 with no outs. Malone gave up just one hit in the bottom of the frame, and with two outs and a runner on first, Malone completed the pick-off attempt to Bryce Sidler at first, to close out the inning. 

Cumberlands scored 11 combined unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth inning to defeat Lindsey Wilson 22-6 in seven innings.

The Blue Raiders will face the loser of Campbellsville (Ky.) and Cumberland (Tenn.) on Thursday at 11 a.m. CT in an elimination game at Bowling Green Ballpark
