SILVIS, Ill. -- After stopping and starting multiple times on Tuesday, Lindsey Wilson men's golf finally completed its first round today at the 73rd annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championship at TPC Deere Run.
Following 18 holes, the Blue Raiders are tied for third in the 29-team field after posting a team-total 3-over par 287. Lindsey Wilson sits seven strokes behind first-round leader Wayland Baptist (Texas), who carded a 4-under par 280.
Lindsey Wilson's Rio Saigal posted the low round of the day for the Blue Raiders. He recorded three birdies in a bogey-free round en route to carding a 3-under par 68. Saigal is tied for fifth in the 156-man field.
Stanley White carded two birdies and three bogeys on his way to a 1-over par 72 over the 6,809-yard, par-71 layout. White is tied for 28th overall through the first round.
Adam Hawthorn and Toby White shot 73 and 74, respectively. Hawthorn recorded a team-best four birdies on the day to sit in 42nd place, while Toby White matched Hawthorn with four birdies to end the day at 53rd.
Johan Bredenkamp rounds out the Blue Raider quintet. He carded a 75 during the round to sit in a tie for 63rd.
Dalton State (Ga.) is second on the team leaderboard after an even-par 284. Oklahoma City and Texas Wesleyan are tied with Lindsey Wilson for third place.
Dalton State's Jack Whaley sits atop the individual leaderboard following today's NAIA-record 10-under par 61. Whaley bested the previous single-round record by three strokes. Faulkner's (Ala.) Rodolphe Cicala is second with a 6-under par 65 followed by a pair of players at 66.
The Blue Raiders open their second round at noon CT on Thursday. The third and final round is scheduled for Friday.
