COLUMBIA, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson outhit its opponents 0.202 to 0.016 en route to a pair of victories on day one of the Roar and Raid Volleyball Invitational on Friday

Ola Wyrzykowska averaged 10 kills and 10.5 digs and Ana Clara Beltran Sacca hit 0.485 with 19 kills to pace the Blue Raiders' offensive efforts.

Luiza Gonçalves dished out 64 assists on the day to go along with 18 digs, a dozen kills, and three service aces, while, defensively, Momo Hampton and Layla HuYoung each contributed 24 digs, and Sofija Pjevic totaled 10 blocks.

 
Match One: Lindsey Wilson 3, Tennessee Wesleyan 0

The hosts limited the visiting Bulldogs to negative attack percentages in each of the first two sets. Trailing 6-3 early in the first frame, Wyrzykowska sparked a five-point rally with a kill. Tennessee Wesleyan answered back to go ahead 11-9, but consecutive hits by Sacca and Gonçalves kick started an 11-1 run by the Blue Raiders to run away with the first set.

Successful attacks from Petra Fernandez Garcia and Pjevic helped open a 5-0 start to the middle set for Lindsey Wilson. The advantage ultimately grew to as many as 12 points as the home side grabbed a commanding two-set lead.

The Bulldogs kept the score close in the early stages of the third set, eventually tying the game at 12-12. A kill by Gonçalves triggered a four-point swing, and Lindsey Wilson never surrendered the lead from that point on.

Service aces were key for the Blue Raiders in their first match of the weekend. Led by Sacca's three, the home team finished with 10 aces to the Bulldogs' three.
 

Match Two: Lindsey Wilson 3, Johnson (Tn.) 1

In Lindsey Wilson's first ever meeting with Johnson, the Blue Raiders had to shake off a challenging third set to earn the win.

The Royals came out of the gate strong with the first four points of the match, only to be countered by a 6-2 Lindsey Wilson run to knot the score. After Johnson reclaimed a 7-6 edge, a costly service error sent the hosts off on a decisive seven-point rally to take a 13-7 lead. Another seven-point run later on, as well as nine attack errors by the Royals in the first set cushioned Lindsey Wilson just enough to take the frame.

The Blue Raiders put forth their best hitting percentage of the day in the second set, recording 19 kills while hitting 0.421. A 5-0 stretch midway into the set was the difference, with three of those points coming off the hand of Garcia.

A back-and-forth third teetered in favor of the Royals when said and done. Deadlocked at 17-17, Johnson pieced together six straight points and held off the home side to extend the match.

There was no doubt left on the floor in the fourth frame, thanks to a massive 9-1 run that turned a 12-9 Lindsey Wilson lead into a 21-10 advantage. Garcia chipped in a subsequent kill followed by a joint-block with Pjevic to inch the Blue Raiders closer to victory, then Natalie Wandrie and Wyrzykowska went back-to-back on the attack the seal the deal.
