Football Hosts No. 8 St. Thomas Saturday

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson football team welcomes No. 8 St. Thomas (Fla.) to Parnell Family Stadium for a 3 p.m. CT kickoff on Saturday.

The Blue Raiders come into Saturday's matchup with a 2-0 record after defeating Ave Maria (Fla.) 37-3 last week. Lindsey Wilson outgained Ave Maria 341-212 in the victory and held the Gyrenes to 49 rushing yards on 26 carries. The Blue Raiders are off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2022.

Reigning Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week Tate Rice completed 17 of his 20 passes for 249 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. Rice's touchdowns went to four different Blue Raiders. Davontaye Saunders led the Blue Raiders, catching four passes for 85 yards and a touchdown. Saunders also tallied 59 yards on 14 carries. Byron Kirkland-Lundy scored on a 90-yard kickoff return.

The Lindsey Wilson defense forced three Ave Maria turnovers with a pair of interceptions and a fumble. Lou Burchfield totaled five tackles, 2.5 sacks, and forced a fumble. Cameron Rankins and Kevin Wilson also tallied five tackles. Kelson McKinney and Jermaine Allen each recorded an interception.

Through two games, the Blue Raider defense ranks second in the NAIA in points allowed (6.5) and seventh in rushing yards allowed per game (39). Lindsey Wilson's 293 passing yards per game rank 15th in the country.

St. Thomas enters play coming off a 55-7 victory over Fort Lauderdale last week in its season opener. The Bobcats garnered 400 yards of offense in the win while holding Fort Lauderdale to just 119. St. Thomas held the Eagles to -18 rushing yards on 25 carries. Keely Watson went 12-for-20, throwing for 151 yards and three touchdowns. Jaden Fox-Harrington caught three passes for 52 yards and a touchdown. Keyon Martin and Rashard Farmer each had an interception for the Bobcats.

Saturday is the first all-time meeting between the two programs.
