COLUMBIA, Ky. — The No. 19 Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team earned a 2-0 Senior Day clean-sheet victory over Mid-South Conference rival Campbellsville (Ky.) Thursday night at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (7-3-1, 4-1-0 MSC) attacked right out of the gate, with
Camila Vieira firing a shot wide left just two minutes into the contest. The offensive pressure continued as Lindsey Wilson earned two corner kicks in the fifth and sixth minutes but was unable to convert.
Amelie Matheis generated the Tigers' (8-2-2, 3-1-0 MSC) best opportunity of the opening period in the 10th minute, sending a shot into the box. Blue Raiders' goalkeeper
Demi Serman reined it in for her first save of the night.
The two teams spent the majority of the first half feeling each other out as the match remained deadlocked at 0-0 entering the break.
It was a blazing start to the second half for Lindsey Wilson courtesy of
Eva Cova, who found the back of the net on an assist from
Ashiat Naluggwa in the 46th minute to break the tie. Cova struck again in the 50th minute, securing a brace to extend the Blue Raiders' advantage to 2-0.
One shot on goal in the 70th minute is all the Blue Raiders' defense surrendered in the second half. Coming into the contest, the Tigers led the MSC in goals with 50, averaging 4.5 goals per game. Tonight marked only the second time all season Campbellsville had been shut out. With the victory, Lindsey Wilson moves to 31-3-1 all-time against Campbellsville.
The Blue Raiders wrap up their regular season with a three-game road swing, starting with a 2 p.m. CT meeting at Midway on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
