ROME, Ga. – The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team fell 4-2 to No. 8 Cumberlands (Ky.) on Sunday in the fifth-place match at the ITA NAIA Indoor National Championship at the Rome Tennis Center.
Cumberlands opened the match with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Miguel Mateo Larrea and
Lucas Marques defeated Manu Fernandez and Vivier Thibaud 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. The Patriots took the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 1.
Facundo Grasso tied the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jacopo Cianfarini at No. 2 singles.
Lev Sholosh gave Lindsey Wilson a 2-1 advantage with a 7-6, 6-4 victory against Darius Kuster at No. 1 singles. Gabriele Solda tied the match 2-2 with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 win over Larrea at No. 3 singles.
Cumberlands took a 3-2 lead with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 victory from Roy Kesia over Marques at No. 5 singles. Mohammed Abuzed clinched the match for the Patriots with a 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 (8-6) over
Aldo Randazzo at No. 6 singles.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday, February 28, traveling to McKenzie, Tennessee, for a Mid-South Conference matchup against Bethel (Tenn.)
