Baseball Drops Series Finale to No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team dropped the series finale against Georgia Gwinnett on Sunday, 13-1 at Egnew Park.

Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher Sam Raper was charged his first loss of the season, while Grizzlies reliever Jake Cothran was credited with his first win of the season. The Blue Raiders recorded two hits as a team, one from Bryce Sidler, the other from Diego Andino. The Grizzlies recorded 13 hits as a team. Peyton Watts recorded three hits and drove in two runs, while Payton Fort recorded two hits and an RBI.  Wilbert Espinal also recorded two hits for Georgia Gwinnett.

The Blue Raiders scored first in the bottom of the first inning when Andres Duran drove in Caden Davis on an RBI fielder's choice. The Grizzlies scored the final 13 runs of the game. In the top of the second inning, Lance Bratlien scored from third on an errant throw to second base by LWU catcher Amir Pineiro attempting to throw out Chris Tillery. Tillery scored on an additional throwing error by Pineiro. JJ Garcia drove in Jackson Legg with a sacrifice fly. Trey Smith hit a two-run home run that drove in Watts, to punctuate the five-run inning for Georgia Gwinnett. Two runs in the top of the fifth inning made the score 7-1 Grizzlies. In the top of the sixth inning, the Grizzlies scored seven runs, highlighted by a two-run single by Watts, making the score 13-1. Lindsey Wilson failed to score after the first inning. 

The Blue Raiders travel to Bryan College (Tenn.) for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 7, with the first game starting at 2:00 p.m. CT, and game two starting approximately 30-45 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
