Kayden Murray earns her ninth career Mid-South Conference softball Pitcher of the Week award, league officials announced Monday.
The junior pitched an efficient week for the Blue Raiders last week as they improved to 12-2 overall with eight wins in nine games.
On Monday and Tuesday, Murray rattled off a dozen scoreless innings across two starts versus Northwestern Ohio. She started game one and went the complete game, giving up six hits and striking out nine. For game three of the series, Murray dealt the first five innings and allowed only two hits to along with seven strikeouts. She earned the win for both efforts without walking a single Racer batter.
Over the weekend, Lindsey Wilson traveled to Columbus, Georgia for the NFCA-NAIA Leadoff Classic. There, Murray made three starts and one relief appearance, totaling 20 strikeouts over 23 innings and surrendering seven earned runs. On the first day of the tournament, she faced two separate walk-off opportunities for the opposition but stood her ground to collect a win and a save. Murray then fired complete-game victories over Truett-McConnell (Ga.) and Mobile (Ala.) to help Lindsey Wilson clinch the tournament title. She was ultimately named to the NFCA-NAIA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament Team.
Murray posted an 18-to-1 strikeouts-to-walks ratio for the week and maintained her additional defensive responsibilities with seven fielding assists on seven chances. She continues to lead the conference with 66 total strikeouts and is also tied for the league-high at seven wins and two saves. The junior sports a 1.45 earned run average, which is the best among pitchers with at least 10 appearances.
For her career, Murray is up to 389 strikeouts, -- eighth all-time -- 37 wins, -- ninth all-time -- and 11 shutouts -- tied for sixth all-time.
Kayden and her Blue Raider teammates are in Gulf Shores, Alabama this weekend for the Gulf Shores Invitational, beginning Friday through Sunday.
