Flag Football Increases Win-Streak to Four after 27-19 Victory Over Cumberland

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Blue Raider flag football team defeated Cumberland (Tenn.) 27-19 on Wednesday night at Nokes-Lasater field. 

Amaya Pablo led the team in passing completing 20-of-37 attempts for 275 yards and four touchdowns. Carley Yokley had three receptions for two touchdowns while Jenna Lindsey and Cadence Wermers tacked on a touchdown as well. Gabby Kruse led the defensive brigade with eight flag pulls while Jali Santiago tallied six.

Lindsey Wilson scored the first points of the game from eight-yards out on a pass from Pablo to Wermers on an eight play, 39-yard drive at 3:50 to take a 7-0 advantage. Cumberland answered back with a 12-play drive after completing two fourth down attempts and a Madison Woodard rushing touchdown from three-yards out to trail 7-6 headed into the second quarter. 

Cumberland would take a 12-6 lead in the second quarter after Woodard found CallieAnna Griggs for a 16-yard touchdown at the 2:53 mark. The Blue Raiders answer back with a touchdown drive of their own with Yokley catching a pass from Pablo 55-yards out to push Lindsey Wilson ahead 13-12. The Phoenix would close the half on a six-play drive for 66-yards and a touchdown from Woodard to Griggs to pull ahead of the Blue Raiders 19-13. 

After a scoreless drive from the Blue Raiders and Phoenix, Pablo found Lindsey from nine-yards out to score the first points of the second half and push LWU ahead 20-19 with 1:35 on the clock, taking the advantage headed into the final quarter of action. 

Lindsey Wilson's defense held Cumberland scoreless the last 15 minutes of action. The Blue Raider offense went on an eight-play drive that ended in the end zone with Pablo finding Yokley from 20-yards out to seal the game, ending in a 27-19 victory over Cumberland. 

The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Friday to face (RV) Siena Heights (Mich.) at 11 A.M. CT for the first game of the Flag Frenzy Tournament in Campbellsville, Kentucky.
