Game Recap: Softball |

Late Momentum Helps No. 16 Softball to Sweep of Georgetown

COLUMBIA, Ky. - Behind a pair of complete-game performances, No. 16 Lindsey Wilson softball shut down Georgetown in sweeping fashion.

Hallie Roberts and Kayden Murray each went the distance in the circle for the Blue Raiders, combining to allow only one run on 12 hits.

At the plate, Emerson McKinnis racked up five hits in six at bats, Sam Hartman contributed three hits, and Natalie Wandrie produced two RBIs on two hits.

Game One: No. 16 Lindsey Wilson 2, Georgetown 0

Roberts dealt her second consecutive complete-game shutout in game one. The sophomore held the Tigers to six hits, did not issue a walk or hit-by-pitch, and punched out seven on strikes. Roberts also did not allow any Georgetown runners past second base.

The lone runs of the game came in the bottom half of the first inning. Kaiden Rodgers singled to left field, then advanced to second as Hartman drew a walk. Wandrie provided the hit to plate both early tallies for the Blue Raiders, doubling to center field to score Rodgers and Hartman and give Lindsey Wilson a 2-0 lead.

The home team ultimately maintained its initial advantage through the remainder of the contest.

Along with Roberts' efforts, the Lindsey Wilson outfield of Wandrie, Hartman, and Atavya Fowler made nine putouts between the three.

Game Two: No. 16 Lindsey Wilson 6, Georgetown 1

Georgetown grabbed an early lead in the top leg of the second inning, but the Blue Raiders rattled off six unanswered runs to take game two.

In the home half of the fourth frame, Wandrie got things started by singling to right center field, then stealing second base. McKinnis came up next and hit Wandrie home to tie the game before Hannah Carter and Marissa Frolich followed with a walk and base hit to load the bases. On a 2-2 pitch, Fowler found a soft spot in the Georgetown infield to bring home McKinnis, then Epley added an RBI off a sacrifice flyout to score Carter.

Two innings later, Frolich notched her second hit of the game to lead off the sixth. The late push continued as Epley, Rodgers, and Hartman connected on consecutive doubles to increase the Blue Raiders' cushion to 6-1.

In the top of the seventh inning, Georgetown put runners on the corners, but Murray picked up all three outs on strikes to keep the Tigers on lock.

Murray ended the game with six strikeouts, a walk, and one earned run allowed on six hits.

The series finale between Lindsey Wilson and Georgetown is slated for noon CT on Sunday, March 29 at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.
