COLUMBIA, Ky. - No. 16 Lindsey Wilson softball plated four runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome a late deficit and defeat Georgetown (Ky.) on Sunday afternoon at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.
Trailing 4-3,
Nora Epley led off the inning with an infield single to third base.
Kaiden Rodgers followed and reached on Tigers' fielding error. The miscue pushed Epley up to third base, setting up
Sam Hartman to sacrifice herself and flyout to right field, scoring Epley.
A bunt single by
Natalie Wandrie kept the Blue Raiders' rally alive and moved pinch runner
Kaylen Newton into scoring position. The next at-bat,
Emerson McKinnis launched a ball to deep right field that, when bobbled and dropped by the Tigers' outfielder, cleared the way for Wandrie and Newton to hustle home and give Lindsey Wilson the lead.
Hannah Carter's one-out single to the short side drove home McKinnis for the Blue Raiders' last run of the inning.
In the top leg of the seventh inning, Georgetown brought the tying run to the plate with two outs on board, only for
Kayden Murray to retire the Tigers' last chance on strikes.
Sunday's game included four lead changes. One of which happened in the bottom of the third after Hartman's third home run of the season knotted the score at 2-2, and a sacrifice flyout by Carter to plate Wandrie edged Lindsey Wilson in front.
Eight different Blue Raiders contributed hits.
Murray improved to 15-2 overall and 3-1 in Mid-South play. She pitched the complete game, recorded eight strikeouts, walked two, and surrendered three earned runs on 10 hits.
Lindsey Wilson is back home at 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, March 31 to host Indiana Southeast in a non-conference doubleheader.
