No. 16 Softball Smokes Indiana Southeast

COLUMBIA, Ky. - No. 16 Lindsey Wilson softball wiped the floor against Indiana Southeast on Tuesday at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.

The Blue Raiders clubbed five home runs, two of which came from Natalie Wandrie, as part of 19 hits across the doubleheader.

Kayden Murray was near untouchable in game two, surrendering only one base runner, while Hallie Roberts pitched her third consecutive complete game to start the twin bill.

Game One: No. 16 Lindsey Wilson 3, Indiana Southeast 1

Roberts dealt six scoreless innings and punched out seven on strikes to help keep Lindsey Wilson in front in game one.

A throwing error by the Grenadiers got the scoring started in the bottom half of the first inning, plating Kaiden Rodgers after a hit to center field by Wandrie.

The Blue Raiders held on to their 1-0 lead through the fourth inning as Indiana Southeast stranded seven runners in five plate appearances.

In the bottom of the fifth, Nora Epley timed up a 2-1 pitch and clocked it to left center field for her third career home run, then in the sixth, Summer Ray belted a solo shot to the trees in center field, giving Lindsey Wilson a 3-0 lead.

Indiana Southeast ended the shutout bid in the seventh but managed only one run before Roberts retired the final out on strikes. The sophomore's scoreless streak lasted an impressive 19 1/3 innings.

Game Two: No. 16 Lindsey Wilson 8, Indiana Southeast 1

Emerson McKinnis put the Blue Raiders on the board in the first inning when her bunt single squeezed home Hartman.

Lindsey Wilson tacked on another run the next inning off the bat of Rodgers, whose sacrifice flyout drove in Aubrey Miller.

The bats revved up in the bottom leg of the third inning. After a leadoff walk to Hartman, Wandrie tanked a two-run bomb to left field. Three pitches later, McKinnis pummeled her fifth home run of the year to left field, bringing the Blue Raiders' advantage up to 5-0.

Atavya Fowler continued the barrage with a one-out, RBI-single to score McKenna Ingram, then Ray pounced on a wild pitch to tally a seventh run.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Wandrie capped an outstanding day with her second long ball to deep center field. It marked the junior's second multi-home run game of the season and the 15th home run of her career.

Murray carried a perfect game into the fifth inning and ultimately closed with one earned run allowed on one hit. She recorded a dozen strikeouts and did not issue a single walk.
