COLUMBIA, Ky. - The No. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team ran its win streak to eight with a 5-2 victory over No. 12 Cumberlands (Ky.) on Monday at The Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
With the victory, the Blue Raiders improve to 11-1 and 5-0 in the Mid-South Conference, clinching at least a share of the regular season championship.
Heyka Rodriguez and
Javiera Verdugo defeated Mahiro Hara and YuFang Liu 6-1 in the top-seeded doubles match.
Mayra Gisone and
Martina Cortal earned the doubles point for the Blue Raiders with a 6-4 win over Victoria Zarate and Haruna Kojima at No. 2 doubles.
Mariangeles Mateu increased the Lindsey Wilson lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Zarate at No. 3 singles. Cortal pushed the Blue Raider lead to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Bryndis Rosa in the second-seeded singles match.
Marina Nagi defeated Gisone 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at No. 1 singles to make it 3-1.
Blanca Trillo Pita da Veiga clinched the victory for Lindsey Wilson with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Hara at No. 5 singles. Verdugo won 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 10-6 over Kojima at No. 5 singles. The Patriots other win came at No. 6 singles with Liu defeating
Hang Nguyen 6-4, 6-1.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Thursday, taking on No. 6 Xavier (La.) in Memphis, Tennessee.
