GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson Blue Raider baseball team defeated the Georgetown (Ky.) Tigers 8-4 on Friday evening at Robert N. Wilson Field.
Lindsey Wilson moves to 15-22 on the year and 5-8 in Mid-South Conference play. Georgetown's losing streak reaches 16 games, while its record moves to 8-28 overall, and 1-12 in conference.
Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher, Jack Ballou, earned his third victory of the season, moving his record to 3-2. Ballou pitched 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, walking one, and striking out three. Relief pitcher Kyle Lambert earned his first save of the season. Lambert pitched four innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking one, and striking out three. Georgetown starting pitcher Nathan Beaven received his fifth loss of the season, moving his record to 0-5. Beaven failed to reach the second inning, pitching 0.2 innings, allowing four runs on two hits, walking one, and failing to strike out a Blue Raider.
Offensively, LWU was led by Drake Young and Orion Hahm-Taklander. Young went 2-4 with a run scored, a walk, and four RBIs. Hahm-Taklander went 4-5 with two doubles, a run scored, and an RBI. For the Tigers, Elijah Verge and Luis Romero were two of the few bright spots. Verge went 3-5 from the leadoff spot with an RBI, while Romero went 3-5 with an RBI.
The Blue Raiders jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning via a Young three-run bases-clearing double and an Isaac Samano RBI single. Georgetown responded with a run in the first on a Luis Romero single in the bottom of the first and a solo home run by Aidan Jbara in the second to make it 4-2.
Samano added two more runs in the top of the third inning for Lindsey Wilson with a two-run single, making the score 6-2. Verge added Georgetown's third run with an RBI single in the fourth inning to make the score 6-3. Young added another run in the fifth inning with an RBI double, and Hahm-Taklander added another RBI double in the sixth inning to make the score 8-4. Georgetown added one run in the sixth inning, but failed to score the rest of the game to give Lindsey Wilson the win.
Games two and three are scheduled for a Saturday doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. CT.
