Women’s Tennis has Five Earn All-Conference Honors; Three Earn Individual Awards

COLUMBIA, Ky. - Five Lindsey Wilson women's tennis student-athletes earned All Mid-South Conference honors, conference officials announced on Friday.
 
The Blue Raiders also took home three individual awards, with Javiera Verdugo being named the MSC Freshman of the Year. Lindsey Wilson Head Coach Eric Bernabeu was named the MSC Head Coach of the Year, while Aina Berabeu earned Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
 
Verdugo becomes the sixth Blue Raider in program history to earn Freshman of the Year honors and the first since 2016. In conference play, she posted a perfect 6-0 record at No. 4 singles in her freshman campaign. Verdugo teamed up with Heyka Rodriguez and went undefeated at No. 1 doubles against the conference.
 
Eric Bernabeu earns his first MSC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year honor and becomes the ninth in program history and first since 2021. Aina Bernabeu becomes the program's second-ever MSC Assistant Coach of the Year. Eric and Aina guided the Blue Raiders to a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play and the program's 19th regular season championship. Lindsey Wilson enters postseason play with an 11-match winning streak and a 14-1 overall record.
 
Joining Verdugo on the first team are Martina Cortal, Mayra Gisone, and Mariangeles Mateu. Blanca Trillo Pita da Veiga earned Secon Team All-Conference honors.
 
Cortal posted a 5-1 record at No. 2 singles this season against the MSC. Her and Mayra Gisone went undefeated in the conference at No. 2 doubles, going 6-0. Overall this season, Cortal is 8-4 at the No. 2 singles spot while she and Gisone are 13-0 in doubles.
 
In conference play, Gisone went 5-1 from the No. 1 singles spot. Against all competition, she 11-2 from the top singles position.
 
Mateu recorded a 5-1 record at No. 3 singles against the MSC. Her and Trillo went undefeated against the MSC at No. 3 doubles, going 5-0. Mateu is 9-3 overall this season with eight wins coming from the No. 3 spot.
 
Trillo went 5-0 against conference opponents at No. 5 singles. She is 11-1 this season in singles, going 8-1 at No. 5 and 3-0 at No. 4. Overall, Trillo and Mateu are 10-0 at No. 3 doubles.
 
The Blue Raiders open their postseason on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT in the semifinals of the MSC Tournament at the Warren County Tennis Facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
