Flag Football Splits on First Day of NAIA East Championship Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ind.- The Blue Raider flag football team fell in game one 33-14 to St. Francis (Ind.) followed by a 40-18 bounce back victory over Cumberland (Tenn.) in game two on the first day of the NAIA East Championship Tournament at Nexus Park. 

Amaya Pablo led the team in passing, completing 39-of-71 attempts for 464 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions. Maebrie Cochran led the team in receptions tallying five touchdowns on the day. Defensively, Tyria Tanner led the team in flag pulls with a combined 13 and one interception. 

Game One: St. Francis 33, Lindsey Wilson 14
St. Francis struck first after  Pablo threw an interception for a 37-yard Cougar pick-six to trail 6-0 early. The next possession, Pablo was able to find Momo Hampton from six-yards out to tie the game at 6-6 headed into the second quarter.

The Cougars jumped ahead of LWU 19-6 headed into halftime. Lindsey Wilson was held scoreless through the third quarter, falling behind 26-6 headed into the final 12 minutes. 

Lindsey Wilson cut the deficit to 26-14 in the fourth quarter after Pablo found Cochran from eight-yards out and completed the two point conversion at the 7:43 mark. The Blue Raiders conceded one more Cougar touchdown in the final quarter, falling 33-14. 

Game Two: Cumberland 18, Lindsey Wilson 40
The Blue Raiders jumped ahead quickly in game two with Pablo rushing for a 19-yard touchdown in drive one and Pablo finding Cochran in drive two for a 38-yard touchdown to lead 13-0 at the 4:09 mark. Cumberland and Lindsey Wilson traded trips to the end zone in three straight possessions to close the first quarter of action with a score of 19-12 in favor of the Blue Raiders. 

Lindsey Wilson produced two more touchdowns in the first half to edge the Phoenix 33-12 headed into halftime. 

Both teams tallied one more touchdown apiece, both in the third quarter, producing a final of 40-18 in favor of the Blue Raiders after a scoreless fourth quarter.

Flag Football will be back in action on Friday at 8 A.M. CT to face the Saints of Siena Heights (Mich.) in the first round of bracket play in the NAIA East Championship Tournament.
