Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Freed-Hardeman

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson Blue Raider baseball team dropped Friday's doubleheader against (RV) Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) at Egnew Park 7-2 and 11-7. 

The Blue Raiders' losing streak hits five games, and their record drops to 13-21. The Lions move to 24-10 and extend their winning streak to seven games. 

Game One: Lindsey Wilson 2 v. (RV) Freed-Hardeman 7

Freed-Hardeman starting pitcher Hunter McLemore was virtually unhittable en route to his second complete game of the season. McLemore allowed two runs on only two hits, walking six, striking out five, and earning his fourth victory of the year. LWU starting pitcher Brenden Bratcher pitched 6.1 innings, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits, walking one, and striking out four. Bratcher received his second loss, moving his record to 3-2 on the season. Brennen Gibson and JJ Pruneau led the way for the Lions offensively. Gibson went 3-4 with a run scored, two RBIs, and a double. Pruneau went 2-3 with two runs scored, three RBIs, a double, and a home run. LWU was limited to two hits as a team, one from Caden Davis and the other from Isaac Samano.

Freed-Hardeman scored first in the top of the second inning on an Alejandro Diaz RBI single that made the game 1-0. Gibson padded the Lions' lead in the top of the third inning when he hit a two-run double to make the game 3-0. Later in the third, Pruneau hit a three-run home run to make the score 6-0 FHU. Lindsey Wilson was able to avoid the shutout with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 6-2. Brooks Jones added a solo home run in the top of the seventh, making the score 7-2. Lindsey Wilson was retired in order to give Freed-Hardeman the 7-2 win. 

Game Two: Lindsey Wilson 7 v. (RV) Freed-Hardeman 11

The Lions defeated the Blue Raiders 11-7 to sweep Friday's doubleheader. LWU starting pitcher Jack Ballou went 5.0 innings, allowing nine runs on 11 hits, walking two, and striking out four. Ballou received the loss, bringing his record to 2-2 on the season. Freed-Hardeman's starting pitcher, Jackson Fitzwilson, pitched six innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits, walking four, and striking out five. Fitzwilson earned his sixth win of the year, moving his record to 6-1. Jackson Hines earned his first save of the year, working the final three innings, allowing two runs on five hits, and walking two. 

Adam Walters was one of the bright spots for the Blue Raiders. Walters went 2-3 with three RBIs, a run scored, and a double. As for the Lions, it was more of Gibson and Pruneau. Gibson went 3-5 with two runs scored, two RBIs, and a double. Pruneau went 4-4 with two RBIs. 

The Lions scored four runs in the top of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. FHU scored two more runs in the third inning, before adding another run to make it 7-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning. 

Lindsey Wilson got on the scoreboard for four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Keith Stewart drove in a run on an RBI single, followed by a Walters two-run double. Diego Andino drove in Walters with an RBI to move the score to 7-4 through four innings. Colin Milligan increased the FHU lead in the top of the fifth inning, when he launched a no-doubter to right field, for his second home run of the season. Two more runs in the sixth inning for the Lions made the score 11-4. RBI singles by both Pineiro and Davis in the sixth inning made the score 11-6 FHU. Lindsey Wilson added another run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Walters drove in Stewart to make the score 11-7. Lindsey Wilson was unable to mount a comeback, giving Freed-Hardeman the Friday doubleheader sweep.

Game three is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT Saturday at Egnew Park.
