MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 7-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team defeated No. 10 seed Huntington (Ind.) 4-2 in the second round of the NAIA Tournament on Wednesday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
With the victory, the Blue Raiders improve to 16-2 and have won their last 14 matches. Lindsey Wilson advances to Thursday's quarterfinals, where they will take on second-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan at 9 a.m. CT. The two teams met back on February 13 at the ITA NAIA Indoor Nationals, with Tennessee Wesleyan coming away with the 4-0 victory.
Lev Sholosh and
Lucas Marques (No. 13-ranked doubles in NAIA) defeated Santiago Sarudiansky and Julian Tantera (ranked No. 50) 6-2 in the top-seeded doubles match. Mateo Batista and Martin Capdevilla won 6-2 over
Facundo Grasso and
Miguel Mateo Larrea at No. 2 doubles. The Foresters took the doubles point with Juan Carrasco and Javier Lopez Real defeating
Aldo Randazzo and
Raul Safont (ranked No. 34) 6-3 at No. 3.
Sholos (ranked No. 6 in NAIA) tied the match 6-3, 6-1 victory over Tantera (No. 11) in the top-seeded singles match. Grasso (No. 20) gave Lindsey Wilson a 2-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sarudiansky (No. 39) at No. 2. Lopez Real tied the match with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Marques at No. 5 singles.
Randazzo brought the Blue Raiders to within a point of the victory with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win over Carrasco in the sixth-seeded match. Larrea (No. 47) clinched the match with a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory over Capdevilla (No. 29) at No. 3.
The Blue Raiders take on Tennessee Wesleyan at 9 a.m. CT on Thursday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
