COLUMBIA, Ky. - The No.10-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team defeated Mid-South Conference foe No. 23-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) 3-2 on Saturday night at Ray Wells Field at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (5-4-0, 2-1-0 MSC) were outshot 16-15, including Cumberlands (4-4-1) out-shooting them 13-6 in the second half. Renny Caicedo, Denilson Macon, and Milan Diao all scored a goal. Tyson Ndlovu and Juliano Manfro each recorded an assist. Zahir Garcia had six saves and recorded his fifth win of the season in goal.
In the 24th minute, Macon played a ball to Darren Bantom, who then sent a through ball to Caicedo, who was able to gather the ball off a Patriot defender and scored the first goal of the game. Caicedo has three goals this season for the Blue Raiders.
In the 34th minute, the Blue Raiders had an opportunity to score again when they were awarded a corner kick from the left side. Manfro found Ndlovu on the back post, who found Macon on the front post, and Macon was able to double the score up.
In the 37th minute, Patrick Chisunga was given a yellow card after a hard foul on Cumberlands. Three minutes later Chisunga fouled another Patriot tough and referee Chad Collins sent him off with a red card, which forced Lindsey Wilson to play the final 50 minutes a man down.
The Patriots were able to close the gap with the advantage of being a man up. In the 50th minute, Jesus Macaya sent a ball to Vinicius Serafim, who found Samuel Dolobaipu, who was able to score his second goal of the season. In the 63rd minute, Garcia was able to save a shot from Yota Ishikawa, but the ball was deflected out to Dunsting Cohen Jr, who put the ball in the back of net, tying the game 2-2.
25 seconds later, Diao was fouled inside the Patriot box and was awarded a penalty kick. Diao was able to score his first goal of the season, and Lindsey Wilson was able to retake the lead, 3-2. Garcia was able to save two shots from the Patriots, and the Blue Raiders were able secure the victory over Mid-South Conference rival Cumberlands.
The Blue Raiders return to Tennessee to face No. 6th-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.) on Friday, October 2, at 12 p.m. in Lebanon, Tennessee.
