COLUMBIA, Ky. – The 12th-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team fell 2-0 to No. 3 Cumberlands (Ky.) in a Mid-South Conference showdown Saturday night at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
In the 11th minute, Letizia Traversone assisted Laura Bosca's goal, giving Cumberlands a 1-0 lead.
Ona Monserrat Baca looked to answer for the Blue Raiders in the 19th minute, firing a shot that was stopped by the Patriots' keeper.
Traversone extended Cumberlands' (5-1-3) lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 21st minute that was assisted by Bosca. Lindsey Wilson's offense produced three shots in the last 20 minutes of the first period, but none were converted as the Patriots took a 2-0 lead into the half.
The Blue Raiders held a 9-2 edge in shots after the break but were unable to convert any of those opportunities. Lindsey Wilson's best chance to chip into the Cumberlands lead was in the 80th minute when
Ashiat Naluggwa corralled a loose ball and rifled it towards the net, where a Patriots defender made an acrobatic block to deny the goal. The Blue Raiders drop to 5-3-1 on the season.
