Lebanon, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team battled Cumberland on Tuesday night, falling 3-0 at the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena. The Blue Raiders dropped the opening set 27-25 before Cumberland took the second and third sets 25-22 and 25-19.
Lindsey Wilson and Cumberland traded points throughout a competitive opening set. The Blue Raiders held a late 24-23 lead after a kill from
Natalie Wandrie, but Cumberland answered with two points to take a 25-24 lead. Lindsey Wilson tied the set at 25-25 before Cumberland closed the frame with the final two points, winning 27-25.
The Blue Raiders stayed within reach again in the second set. Lindsey Wilson trailed 17-15 before a
Gabi Zuquelo kill brought the Blue Raiders within one. Cumberland responded with a three-point run, but Lindsey Wilson cut the deficit to 21-20 on another Zuquelo kill. Cumberland closed out the set, scoring four of the final six points to win 25-22 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set got off to a back-and-forth start with neither team leading by more than one for the first eight points. With the set tied at 4-4, the Blue Raiders scored five of the next six points to take a 9-5 lead. Cumberland responded scoring the next four points to tie the set. Lindsey Wilson led 13-10 before Cumberland scored the next four points to take a 14-13 lead. The Blue Raiders scored four of the next five points. Cumberland scored 10 of the final 12 points in the set to clinch the match.
Zuquelo led Lindsey Wilson offensively with 13 kills on 30 attacks while hitting .267.
Natalie Wandrie added six kills on 13 attacks and hit .231, while
Tully Bew recorded five kills and three digs.
Sofija Pjevic finished with three kills and three block assists.
Rachel Kilchenmann recorded 12 assists and two service aces, while
Addison Janes added nine assists and seven digs.
Momo Hampton led the Blue Raiders defensively with 14 digs, and
Luisina Sandrone Tais contributed eight digs and one service ace.
As a team, Lindsey Wilson recorded 31 kills and 29 assists, with 52 digs and six block assists. Cumberland finished with 37 kills and a .180 hitting percentage.
The Blue Raider junior varsity team defeated the Phoenix 2-1 after dropping the first set.
The Blue Raiders return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, hosting Campbellsville at Biggers Sports Center in a Mid-South Conference matchup.
