COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team travels to Omaha, Neb., this weekend to compete in the College of Saint Mary/MH Hospitality Labor Day Classic. The Blue Raiders will face four challenging opponents over two days, including three ranked teams and one receiving votes in the latest NAIA coaches' poll. Lindsey Wilson opens play at 12 p.m. CT on Friday, September 4, against No. 3 Concordia (Neb.) before facing No. 2 Northwestern (Iowa) at 4 p.m. CT. The Blue Raiders return to action at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday against (RV) College of Saint Mary (Neb.) and No. 16 Midland (Neb.) at 5 p.m. CT.
Lindsey Wilson enters the weekend with a 7-4 overall record after going 3-1 at the Vette City Classic last weekend.
Tully Bew led the Blue Raiders throughout last weekend's four matches, recording 43 kills and 16 solo blocks while hitting .297.
Sofija Pjevic also delivered a standout performance against LSU Shreveport, recording a career-high 17 kills along with four block assists while hitting .652.
Duda Becho added 11 solo blocks throughout the weekend, while
Momo Hampton continues to rank among the NAIA's top individual defensive performers, sitting in the top three nationally with 218 digs.
Concordia (Neb.) enters Friday's opening match with a 6-2 record after recently falling 3-2 to Indiana Wesleyan. Junior Shandy Faalii leads the Bulldogs with 112 kills, while Myla Emery has recorded 196 assists. Lindsey Wilson will look to slow down Concordia's offensive attack while establishing its own tempo against the No. 3-ranked Bulldogs.
The Blue Raiders then face their second ranked opponent of the day when they take on No. 2 Northwestern (Iowa) at 4 p.m. CT. The Red Raiders enter the weekend with a 7-1 record, led offensively by Stella Winterfeld with 116 kills. Maddy Sampson follows with 61 kills while also leading the team with 25 blocks. Sidney Oostra has anchored Northwestern defensively with 81 digs.
Saturday begins with a matchup against host College of Saint Mary (Neb.), which enters the weekend with a 7-2 record and is receiving votes in the latest NAIA rankings. Kate Vondrak and Azaria Green share the Flames' team lead with 86 kills apiece, while Elen Pruet leads the defensive effort with 144 digs. Lindsey Wilson will look to continue its strong defensive play against a College of Saint Mary squad that has won seven of its first nine matches.
The Blue Raiders close play Saturday evening against No. 16 Midland (Neb.) at 5 p.m. CT. The Warriors enter the weekend at 6-2 after earning a 3-1 victory over St. Thomas. Brena Mackling leads Midland with 190 assists, while Brooklynn Snyder has recorded 130 kills through eight matches, followed by Ashley Beethe with 67 kills. Midland has also established itself defensively, averaging 16.94 digs per set.
The four-match weekend will give Lindsey Wilson an opportunity to compete against some of the NAIA's top teams while continuing to develop its offensive and defensive consistency. With three ranked opponents and one receiving votes on the schedule, the Blue Raiders will look to build on their 7-4 start during one of the most challenging weekends of the early season.
