OMAHA, Neb. – The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday at the College of Saint Mary/MH Hospitality Labor Day Classic, falling 3-2 to (RV) College of Saint Mary (Neb.) before suffering a 3-0 setback against No. 16 Midland (Neb.).

Match One: Lindsey Wilson 2, (RV) Saint Mary 3.

The Blue Raiders opened strong with a 3-0 lead before Saint Mary answered to make it a close battle early. Lindsey Wilson continued to build its advantage behind an effective offense that hit .545 with 13 kills to take the frame 25-17. Luisina Sandrone Tais led the team with four kills in the set. Saint Mary answered in the second set, overcoming a late Blue Raider push to win 25-22.

The Flames carried the advantage into the third set, holding off Lindsey Wilson 25-21. Facing a must-win fourth set, the Blue Raiders responded with an aggressive effort at the net, building a lead midway through the frame before closing out a 25-20 victory to force a deciding fifth set.

Saint Mary jumped out to an early lead in the fifth set and held on for a 15-11 victory to take the match 3-2. Tully Bew led the Blue Raiders with 18 kills, while Luisina Sandrone Tais added 15 kills and hit .361. Gabi Zuquelo recorded 11 kills, and Parker Sutherland added nine kills while hitting .471.

Addison Janes paced the offense with 40 assists, while Layla HuYoung recorded 13 digs and Momo Hampton added 11.

Match Two: Lindsey Wilson 0, No.16 Midland 3 (Neb.)

Lindsey Wilson battled No. 16 Midland throughout the opening set, keeping the frame within reach before the Warriors pulled away late to take it 25-20. Parker Sutherland contributed two kills in the opening frame as the Blue Raiders stayed within striking distance.

Midland controlled the second set early, but Lindsey Wilson continued to battle and cut the deficit to 17-14. The Warriors answered with a late run to take the set 25-16 and move ahead 2-0.

The Warriors carried the momentum into the third set, closing out the match with a 25-14 victory. Natalie Wandrie led Lindsey Wilson with five kills while hitting .714, while Sutherland added four kills and hit .273. Addison Janes recorded 19 assists in the match.


Lindsey Wilson moves to 7-8 on the season following Saturday's two matches.

The Blue Raiders return to action against Tennessee Southern at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Biggers Sports Center.
