Lindsey Wilson Softball Wins Second Straight MSC Tournament Title

JACKSON, Tenn. -- JACKSON, Tenn. -- The Lindsey Wilson College softball team won its second consecutive Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship on Wednesday at Lambuth University Field.

The Blue Raiders -- the tournament's fourth seed -- swept a doubleheader against No. 2 seeded Lambuth to earn the tournament title and the automatic berth into next week's NAIA Region XI Tournament.

Lindsey Wilson defeated the Lady Eagles by scores of 7-2 and 6-2 to win their fifth straight game in the double elimination tournament.
Junior first baseman Jill Diesel provided a four for four appearance at the plate in game one to lead the Blue Raider offensive attack. Senior Amy Rice, junior Bonnie Rooney, and sophomore Ginny Long each contributed two hits in the winning effort.

Freshman Leigh Ann Moore pitched a complete game to collect the victory. Moore gave up two runs on eight hits while striking out seven Lambuth batters.

Diesel continued to swing a hot bat in the second game with a three hits to lead the Blue Raiders.

Senior Whitney Reynolds, junior Leigh Oakley, and Rooney each collected two hits to clinch the championship.

Senior Leigh Ann Collins pitched a complete game for the Blue Raiders for the win. Collins scattered five hits and two runs.

The MSC Tournament began last Saturday at Pikeville College. Lindsey Wilson lost its opening game before winning three straight to reach the finals. Due to the weather, which postponed the tournament's start by a day, the finals were moved to the highest seed remaining of the finalist.

Lambuth advanced to the finals through the winner's bracket to host the deciding games.

The NAIA Region XI Tournament begins on Wednesday, May 11, in Jackson on the campus of Union University. Lindsey Wilson's opens the tournament with TranSouth regular season champion Trevecca Nazarene University in the first round of the double elimination tournament. The finals are scheduled for 3 p.m. CT on Friday.
