COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The top-ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team bounced back from their first loss of the season to beat No. 20-ranked Robert Morris (Ill.) College 1-0 on Saturday in the KELME Classic at Lindsey Wilson Park.
Lindsey Wilson junior midfielder
Hishamar Falconer scored her fourth goal in five games to lift the Blue Raiders to their sixth win of the year. The Blue Raider defense was equally impressive, not allowing the Eagles (6-3-1) a shot for the entire game. Lindsey Wilson ended the night with a 17-0 shots advantage.
Falconer, a Kingston, Jamaica, native, scored an unassisted goal at the 33:02 mark when she beat a Robert Morris defender Elizabeth Baidu to the ball and passed Eagle goalkeeper Fati Mohammed for the 1-0 lead. The goal was Falconer's fourth of the season, tying her for the team lead.
The goal, which was Falconer's 20th of her career, would be all the Blue Raiders would need.
Lindsey Wilson had several chances late in the first half and throughout the second half to add to its lead, but Mohammed turn each Blue Raider shot on goal away. Mohammed ended the night with nine saves.
Lindsey Wilson improves to 6-1-1 with the win entering Mid-South Conference play next Wednesday, September 28, against Georgetown (Ky.) College at Lindsey Wilson Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
In the first game of Saturday's KELME Classic, No. 2-ranked Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University routed No. 4-ranked Lee (Tenn.) University 4-1. The Cougars, who will likely move into the top spot of the NAIA rankings following wins over Lindsey Wilson and Lee, improve to 7-0-0 with the win. Lee drops to 7-3-0 with the loss.
