WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College basketball teams split their opening conference games of the season this afternoon in two showdowns of Top-25 NAIA teams at the University of the Cumberlands.
Terran Duncan's team-high 24 points helped the Blue Raiders overcome 25 turnovers as the
Lindsey Wilson women defeated the host Patriot Ladies 54-51. LWC, ranked No. 23 in the NAIA, improved to 13-6 on the season and 1-0 in the Mid-South Conference. Cumberlands, ranked No. 19 in the NAIA, fell to 11-6 and 0-1 in the MSC.
The Blue Raiders shot 56.4 percent (22-of-39) from the field, led by Duncan's nine of 14 shooting from the field.
Sophomore guard Krystal Jackson added eight points and six assists to help the Blue Raiders win in Williamsburg for the first time since Lindsey Wilson joined the Mid-South in 2000-01.
Cumberlands' Jennifer Nagy led the Patriots with 23 points on 11-of-16 shooting. Kristen Roberson added 11 points in the loss.
In the second game, the
Lindsey Wilson men played a solid defensive game, but had little success on the offensive end en route to a 58-50 loss, their second consecutive loss.
LWC, ranked No. 21 in the NAIA, held the No. 16 Patriots' high-scoring offense to almost 30 points below their season average and won the battle of the boards 39-34, but the Blue Raiders shot a frigid 26.8 percent (15-of-56) from the field.
LWC dropped to 14-5 on the season and 0-1 in the MSC. Cumberlands improved to 15-3 overall and 1-0 in the MSC.

Scott Cook led the Blue Raiders with a game-high 18 points in defeat. Senior forward
Stephen Russell added 12 points and six rebounds.
Sophomore forward
Lloyd Lewis, who leads the team with 15.5 points per game, was limited to just five points on two of seven shooting. Lewis added a team-high 11 rebounds.
Cumberlands senior Patrick Cureton led the Patriots with 17 points, all in the second half. He made 11 of 14 free throws en route to leading Cumberlands to the win.
Senior forward Pierre Darden added 11 points in the win. Junior Chris Simmons contributed five points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
