COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team escaped with a 65-63 win over visiting Union (Ky.) College toady at Biggers Sports Center.
The Blue Raiders (3-1) managed to secure LWC coach Paul Peck's 350th career win despite making just 14 field goals and committing 22 turnovers.
"A win is a win and we'll take it," Peck said of his milestone win. "Tonight we didn't play particularly well, but I think you have to give all the credit to Union. They made us play their style and we struggled to do it."
Lindsey Wilson shot 14-of-35 (40 percent) from the field, including just three of nine three pointers. Union (3-2) made four more field goals during the game and three more three pointers than did the Blue Raiders. Union, however, shot just 33.3 percent (18-of-54) from the field and six of 20 from deep.
The Blue Raiders led 25-21 at the break despite going nearly 11 minutes without a field goal in the first 20 minutes. Lindsey Wilson extended its lead to nine with the second half's first five points. But the Bulldogs responded with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 30-30, the first tie of the game.
Two minutes later Union grabbed its only lead of the game at 35-33 with 11:47 left.

Anthony Labka's basket and subsequent free throw to put the Blue Raiders back on top by two (37-35). Labka ended with a career-high 19 points and seven rebounds.
The game remained a two-possession game in Lindsey Wilson's favor over the next six minutes. The Blue Raiders extended the lead to eight points on five different occasions over the final four minutes, but couldn't put Union away.

Andrew Crooms scored his only point of the night with 30 seconds left on a free throw to give the Blue Raiders a 61-54 lead.
A three-pointer by Union's Jerrod Gibbons cut the lead to four with 16 seconds. Gibbons ended with a team-high 18 points.

Brandon Adams free throws pushed the Lindsey Wilson lead back to six with 14 seconds left before Union's Ryne Brentz buried three of his eight points to cut the lead to 63-60 with four seconds left.

Jeremy Johnson made two free throws with 3.1 seconds to give the Blue Raiders the 65-60 lead. Johnson finished with seven points off the bench.
A desperation three with 0.9 seconds by Union's Aaron Dunaway cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to the final margin. The Blue Raiders in-bounded to end the game at 65-63.
Lindsey Wilson made 34-of-51 free throws in a game where 63 fouls were called. Union was 21-of-30 from the free throw line.
Adams finished with 13 points -- including nine for 10 from the charity stripe -- and senior
John Fitzgerald ended with 11. Junior All-American candidate
Lloyd Lewis -- who entered the game averaging almost 26 points per game -- was limited to eight points due to foul troubles throughout the game.
Union's Max Hunter scored 10 points to join Gibbons with double figures.
"We fought really hard tonight," Peck said. "I was proud of our effort against a quality basketball team. This game can only help us get better."
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CST on Tuesday, November 14, as the Blue Raiders play host to Spalding (Ky.) University at Biggers Sports Center.
