Heaton's First Career Goal Lifts Women's Soccer to 2-0 Win; Skjodt Extends Shutout Streak

OLATHE, Kan. -- The No. 2-seed Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Championships with a 2-0 win over Northwood (Fla.) University in today's second round at the College Boulevard Activity Center.
The Blue Raiders (21-2-0) advance to face the winner of Friday's second round game between No. 7-seed Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) University and No. 10-seed St. Xavier (Ill.) University at 3 p.m. CST on Saturday, November 18.

Lindsey Wilson freshman reserve Lorna Heaton scored her first career goal to give the Blue Raiders the 1-0 lead midway through the first half.

Freshman Yolanda Hamilton's cross into the penalty box set up the game's first goal at the 22:37 mark. The assist is Hamilton's eighth assist of the season.

The first half ended with the Blue Raiders on top 1-0.

Lindsey Wilson controlled the play in the first half, out-shooting the previously unbeaten Seahawks (17-1-0) 10-0. But the Blue Raiders were unable to capitalize on their early offensive domination, as Northwood goalkeeper Adi Jurman and Seahawk defense limited Lindsey Wilson to the one first half goal. Jurman finished with three saves for the match.

In the second period, No. 15-seed Northwood turned the tables on the Blue Raiders, as the Seahawks out-shot the Blue Raiders 6-3.

Despite their chances, Northwood became the 11th straight opponent unable to score against Blue Raider freshman goalkeeper Lisbeth Skjodt and the Lindsey Wilson defense. Skjodt extends her shutout streak to 1,012 consecutive minutes. The Vejle, Denmark, native, has not allowed a goal since October 1.

Lindsey Wilson freshman Kristen Pedersen added the late insurance goal, scoring with 30 seconds left to give the Blue Raiders the 2-0 win. Pedersen's goal -- her team-high 22nd of the season -- came off junior Maiji Suni's second assist this season.

Northwood's season ends at 17-1-0.
