COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College senior
Scott Cook scored a career-high 31 points to lead the men's basketball team to an 82-53 upset of No. 10 Campbellsville (Ky.) University on Thursday at Biggers Sports Center.
With the win, Lindsey Wilson sweeps the season series with the Tigers. Lindsey Wilson won the previous meeting 63-47 at Campbellsville.
Cook made 10 of 15 shots from the field, including five of eight three-pointers en route to his career night. The five treys ties a career-high. Cook added five rebounds and five assists to his 31 points.
Lindsey Wilson scored the game's first eight points and 12 of the first 14 to put the Tigers in an early hole.
Campbellsville managed to cut the Blue Raider lead to six (22-16) with seven minutes remaining, but that's as close as they would get.
The No. 23-ranked Blue Raiders (20-7, 4-3 in the Mid-South Conference) scored the next 11 points to increase their lead to 17 points, the largest of the half. Campbellsville did not get within single digits the remainder of the game.
Lindsey Wilson, who shot 60.9 percent (14 for 23) in the first 20 minutes, led at the half 38-24. The Blue Raiders shot 57.7 percent from the field for the game.
Just like in the first half, Lindsey Wilson opened the second half with a run. The Blue Raiders out-scored the Tigers (20-4, 4-3) 5-0 to open the half.
Campbellsville sophomore Zach Allender scored on back-to-back possessions to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 15 (43-28). Allender ended the night with nine points, six points below his season average.
The Blue Raiders and No. 10-ranked Tigers exchanged baskets over the next two minutes, before Lindsey Wilson went on a 9-0 run to take a 56-34 lead with 12:38 left.
The Blue Raiders extended their lead to as many as 33 (78-45) before closing out the game at 82-53.
Sophomore
Lloyd Lewis scored 13 points in the win, while junior
Lavar Gilbert added a career-high 11 points. Gilbert also grabbed a game-high six rebounds and contributed three steals.
Campbellsville senior Zach Ingles scored a team-high 15 points in the loss.
Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville are joined by University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) and Lambuth (Tenn.) University in a four way tie for second place in the MSC at 4-3.
Georgetown (Ky.) College sits atop the conference with a 5-2 record, while Pikeville (Ky.) College is in last at 0-7.
