PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's and men's basketball teams were eliminated Friday night from the 2006 Community Trust Bank Mid-South Conference Tournament at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center.
The No. 3-seed LWC women lost to No. 2-seed Georgetown (Ky.) College 74-59 in the women's second semifinal game, and then in the men's second semifinal game the No. 2-seeded LWC men were upset by No. 3 seed Campbellsville (Ky.) University, 61-54.
For the LWC men, the loss means a likely drop in the seedings when pairings for the NAIA men's basketball national tournament are announced on Wednesday, March 8. Because the Blue Raiders finished the season No. 12 in the final NAIA ratings, they are assured of receiving one of the 15 at-large bids to the national tournament, to be held March 15-21 in Kansas City, Mo.
For the LWC women, the next few days will be anxious ones. The Blue Raiders did not appear in the NAIA's final Top 25, but LWC received enough votes to be rated No. 27 in the nation.
The Blue Raiders will know on March 8 whether they receive one of the 15 at-large bids to play in the national tournament, held March 15-21 in Jackson, Tenn.
