Women's Soccer Routs Madonna 5-0 in Battle of Top-10 Teams

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team erupted for four goals in the second half to defeat visiting Madonna (Mich.) University 5-0 on Saturday at Lindsey Wilson Park.

Five Blue Raiders scored goals as No. 7-ranked Lindsey Wilson bounced back from a season-opening loss to Houghton (N.Y.) College earlier in the week.
Lindsey Wilson improves to 1-1-0; Madonna, ranked No. 9 in the NAIA preseason coaches' poll, falls to 1-1-1.

Lindsey Wilson junior midfielder Sashshsheena Stewart scored the game's first goal to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead at the 16th-minute mark. The goal ended Lindsey Wilson's nearly 256-minute scoring drought, dating back to last season's regional final.

In the second half, the Blue Raiders -- who are 5-2 under head coach Drew Burwash when coming off a loss -- scored three goals in a 3:18 span to put the game out reach.

LWC senior midfielder Hishamar Falconer started the second-half scoring off senior forward Jill Lirbank-Almbaek's assist at the 50-minute mark. Lirbank-Almbaek's cross into the box took Madonna goalkeeper Traci Anderson out of position and allowed Falconer to push home the goal into an empty net.

Two minutes and 27 seconds later, Lindsey Wilson junior midfielder Sandra Andersson served one of the Blue Raiders' six corner kicks to the opposite side of the penalty area. Senior defender Rowena Alsanea's headed in the third Lindsey Wilson goal past a diving Anderson for a 3-0 Blue Raider lead.

Forty-seven seconds later, Lindsey Wilson freshman defender Bryndis Theodorsdottir rushed deep into the penalty area and headed in the fourth Blue Raider goal off junior midfielder Roxana Minero's assist.

Lindsey Wilson sophomore midfielder Daniela Schwarz ended the scoring in the 85th minute with a rebound goal off the post to give the Blue Raiders a 5-0 lead.

Lindsey Wilson ended the game with a 22-0 shots advantage, including a 10-0 shots-on-goal advantage.

Lindsey Wilson freshmen goalkeepers Carrie Revlett and Lisbeth Skjodt combined for the shutout.

The Blue Raiders return to action at 2:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Aug. 30, as Lindsey Wilson travels to Virginia Intermont University in Bristol, Va.
