COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The No. 7-ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team won their sixth straight game tonight with a 2-0 win over visiting No. 16-ranked Bethel (Tenn.) College in the KELME Classic at Lindsey Wilson Park.
The win is the third consecutive over a ranked opponent and fourth in five tries against teams in the NAIA Top-25. Only No. 6-ranked Houghton (N.Y.) College has beaten the Blue Raiders (6-1-0) this season.
Bethel falls to 4-2-1 with the loss.
LWC senior
Vicky Whitelaw gave the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead with her first goal of the season. Senior
Marie Gallagher's free kick from just inside the center line into the penalty area found a streaking Whitelaw in the seventh minute. Whitelaw grazed the ball pass a Bethel defender and junior goalkeeper Ugo Opara.
The Blue Raiders and Lady Wildcats managed just two shots each over the 37 minutes, as the half ended with LWC leading 1-0.
In the second half, LWC dominated the possession, as Bethel did not attempt a shot in the final 45 minutes. The Blue Raiders out-shot Bethel 7-0 in the second half.
Senior
Hishamar Falconer scored her fifth goal of the season at the 79:40 mark to give the Blue Raiders the 2-0 lead. Falconer dribbled the ball to the left side of the penalty area and blasted a shot across her body into the upper right corner of the goal.
For the game, Lindsey Wilson out-shot the Lady Wildcats 10-2.
Opara recorded three saves, while LWC goalkeeper
Lisbeth Skjodt recorded her fourth shutout of the season despite not collecting a save.
In the first game of the KELME Classic, Milligan (Tenn.) College scored three second-half goals to beat Cumberland (Tenn.) University 3-0. Milligan improves to 3-3-0 with the win, while Cumberland falls to 1-5-0 with the loss.
The KELME Classic concludes on Saturday as Bethel and Milligan will open the doubleheader at 5 p.m. CT, with Lindsey Wilson hosting Cumberland in the nightcap at approximately 7 p.m. CT.
