Women's Soccer Hangs On for 1-0 Win over Martin Methodist

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College sophomore Omolyn Davis scored the only goal and the Blue Raiders held off a furious rally to end the match to beat visiting Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College 1-0 on Friday night at Lindsey Wilson Park.

The match -- featuring a pair of top-10 teams -- was the second match of the women's soccer KELME Classic hosted by Lindsey Wilson.

In the first match, top-ranked Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University beat No. 3-ranked Lee (Tenn.) University 3-2 when junior Sarah Yoro scored the second of her two goals on a penalty kick.

In the nightcap, the No. 2-ranked Blue Raiders scored the 42nd minute as senior forward Sashsheena Stewart played the ball from the center line to a streaking Davis 35 yards out.

Davis controlled the ball and beat Martin Methodist goalkeeper Karen Carmack from 15 yards out to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead.

Both teams had several chances in the second 45 minutes to score. But Carmack and Lindsey Wilson sophomore goalkeeper Carrie Revlett were equal to the challenge.

The Blue Raiders' final chance to add a second goal came in the 73rd minute as Stewart blasted in ball from inside the penalty area. Carmack secured the ball for her fourth save of the night.

No. 7-ranked Martin Methodist controlled the play the final 20 minutes, out-shooting the Blue Raiders 3-0. The RedHawks out-shot the Lindsey Wilson for the game 10-7.

Revlett, a Shelbyville, Ky., native, recorded five saves -- two in a 76-second span in the 83rd and 84th minutes to secure the Lindsey Wilson lead -- on the night for her fourth consecutive shutout.

In the night's first match, Azusa scored in the 10th and 16th minutes to take an early 2-0 lead. Yoro and senior Randie Massro scored to give the Cougars the lead.

The match looked as if it would go to the half at 2-0, but Lee senior Janaina Novaes scored in the 43rd minute with a chip over Azusa goalkeeper Jill Colfer-Martinson to cut the lead to 2-1 at the break.

Novaes tied the match at 2-2 in the 58th minute when she was fouled in the penalty area and capitalized with her second goal of the match on a PK.

Yoro scored the game-winner after Lee was whistled in the 72nd minute for a hand ball in the penalty box. Yoro beat Lee keeper Kristi Koudelka for the game-winner as Azusa improves to 4-0-1 on the season. Lee falls to 4-1-0 following the 3-2 loss.

The KELME Classic concludes on Saturday, as Lee and Martin Methodist will play at 5 p.m. CT at Lindsey Wilson Park. Lindsey Wilson and Azusa Pacific will play 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first match.
