Women's Soccer Knocks Off Top-Ranked Azusa Pacific 1-0

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team won the battle of the top-two teams in the NAIA tonight at Lindsey Wilson Park.

Lindsey Wilson freshman forward Kimmia Parker scored in the 31st minute to help the No. 2-ranked Blue Raiders upset top-ranked Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University 1-0 in the final game of the KELME Classic.

The win is the second straight for the Blue Raiders over the Cougars. Lindsey Wilson claimed the 2006 NAIA national title last season with a 2-1 win in four overtimes in the national final.

The Blue Raiders (5-0-1) scored the game's only goal off a counter-attack at the 30:24 mark. Lindsey Wilson senior midfielder Sashsheena Stewart played the ball into the penalty area from the left flank onto the Parker's boot.

Parker pounded the ball from eight yards out past Azusa Pacific senior goalkeeper Jill Colfer-Martinson and into the back of the net to give Lindsey Wilson the 1-0 lead.

Azusa Pacific (4-1-1) trailed at the break despite holding a 9-4 shots advantage after the first 45 minutes. Four Cougar shots found the target, but LWC sophomore goalkeeper Carrie Revlett turned away each.

Revlett extended her scoreless streak to 515:42 with her fifth consecutive shutout. Revlett recorded five saves on the night.

In the second half, the two teams traded the advantage, but failed to seriously threaten the opposing keeper. Lindsey Wilson ended the second half with an 8-5 shots advantage, including three shots on goal.

Colfer-Martinson finished allowing one goal and stopping three Lindsey Wilson shots.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Tuesday, September 18, as the Blue Raiders host Mid-South Conference foe Pikeville (Ky.) College at Lindsey Wilson Park.
