Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- A mixture of old and new helped the Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team to a 71-68 win over No. 20-ranked University of the Cumberlands today at the O. Wayne Rollins Center.
Lindsey Wilson seniors Krystal Jackson and Moneta Anderson and freshman Viktoria Krell all scored in double figures to lead the Blue Raiders to the upset win in the two team's Mid-South Conference opener.
Jackson scored a game-high 19 points and Anderson and Krell added 17 and 14 respectively. The trio helped the Blue Raiders (13-8, 1-0 in the MSC) shoot 52.7 percent (29-of-55) from the field for their third straight win over the Patriots.
After trailing 34-33 at the break, Cumberlands (14-6, 0-1) built a 59-53 lead -- its largest of the game -- midway through the second half.
Lindsey Wilson responded with an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 64-59 lead. Krell led the charge with six points of the run. Cumberlands countered with a 7-1 run to take 66-65 lead with 2:53 left.
After the two team exchanged baskets, Lindsey Wilson senior Kera Gibson hit a three pointer with 1:54 left to give the Blue Raiders the lead for good. Gibson's basket was the 16th lead change as Lindsey Wilson grabbed the 70-68 lead.
Following a Jackson steal and a Cumberlands' foul, the Danville, Ky., native, extended the Lindsey Wilson lead to 71-68 with 19 seconds left with the first of two free throws.
After a timeout, Jackson missed the second free throw giving the Patriots a final chance to send the game into overtime.
Cumberlands sophomore Amber Neace -- who finished with 18 points, including four three pointers -- missed the game-tying three and Lindsey Wilson escaped with the 71-68 win.
The Patriots shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the field, including 10-of-30 from beyond the three-point arc.
Lindsey Wilson out-rebounded the host 36-27.
Cumberlands senior Lissi Fuller joined Neace with 18 points. Senior Crystal Taylor added 12.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Thursday, January 31, as the Blue Raiders travel to Campbellsville (Ky.) University.
