Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team's season ended tonight with a 3-0 loss to Concordia (Ore.) University in the NAIA National Tournament semifinals at Embry-Riddle Soccer Field.
The Blue Raiders close their season with a 21-2 record. Concordia faces the winner of No. 3-seed Lee (Tenn.) University and No. 10-seed Trinity Christian (Ill.) College at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday, Dec. 6 for the NAIA National Championship.
No. 5-seed Concordia used relentless pressure throughout the match to earn its second trip to the national finals. The Cavaliers (23-0-1) finished the match out-shooting the top-seeded Blue Raiders 16-5, including 6-1 in shots on goal.
Concordia junior forward Jessica Ramback opened the game's scoring in the 13th minute off senior forward Shea Miller's assist. Ramback flicked the ball from the top of the penalty area past the charging Lindsey Wilson junior goalkeeper Carrie Revlett for the 1-0 lead. The goal ended Revlett's scoreless streak at 928 minutes and proved to be the only score in the first half.
In the second half, Concordia continued to apply pressure on Revlett and the Lindsey Wilson back line. The Cavaliers finally broke through in the 76th minute with their second goal of the game. Senior midfielder Caitlin Verhofstadt beat Revlett in the upper left corner of the goal from 25 yards out to give Concordia the 2-0 lead.
The Blue Raiders mounted a comeback in the waning minutes of the match and were given a chance to cut the lead in half in the 83rd minute when a Cavalier defender was whistled for a hand ball in the penalty area.
Lindsey Wilson sophomore forward Kimmia Parker -- who helped the Blue Raiders into the semifinals with a penalty kick goal in the Blue Raiders 1-0 win over Graceland (Iowa) University in the quarterfinals -- sent the PK towards the bottom left corner.
Concordia junior goalkeeper Georgie Christensen judged correctly and sent the Parker's shot harmlessly over the end line for a corner kick for her only save of the night.
Lindsey Wilson managed a pair of good scoring chances in the final five minutes with free kicks just outside the penalty area, but was unable to put the shots on frame. Christensen finished with her ninth shutout of the season.
The Cavaliers concluded the scoring with one second on the clock as Ramback netted her second goal of the game from the top of the penalty area to give Concordia the 3-0 win.
Lindsey Wilson finishes its season for the second straight year in the national semifinal after winning the national title in 2004 and 2006.
