White's 31 Leads Men's Basketball to 60-57 Win over Campbellsville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College junior guard George White hit a three-pointer with a 17.8 seconds left to upset No. 15-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) University 60-57 tonight at the Powell Athletic Center.

The three-pointer capped a 31-point performance for White, who helped the Blue Raiders end a nine-game road skid.

Lindsey Wilson improves to 13-8 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-South Conference with the win.

Campbellsville (17-5, 0-2) led by as many as 10 points on a pair of occasions in the first half thanks in large part to junior forward Nestor Colmenares. He scored 17 points in the first 20 minutes as the Tigers led 34-31 into the locker room.

Campbellsville senior guard Bubba Long -- who was held scoreless in the first half -- scored seven of the Tigers first nine points of the second half to give the host a 43-34 lead five minutes into the half.

Lindsey Wilson scored 10 of the next 12 points to cut the Campbellsville lead to 45-44 with 7:45 left.

Long -- who finished with 14 points -- answered the Lindsey Wilson run with a three-pointer to briefly regain the momentum.

White responded with three three-pointers in an 11-0 Lindsey Wilson run over the next 3:24 to give the Blue Raiders a 55-48 lead with 3:36 remaining. White scored nine points in the run and finished making 12-of-19 shots and 7-of-9 from beyond the three-point arc.

After exchanging scores, the Blue Raiders led 57-50 with 2:57 left.

Campbellsville made its final run with seven straight points in less than a minute to tie the game at 57-57 with 1:21 left. It was the only tie of the game.

Each team missed chances to take the lead on their next possessions.

Finally, the Blue Raiders capitalized on their final possession with the White three-pointer.

Long's attempt to tie the game from the left corner with seven seconds left missed the mark. Colemenares -- who was scoreless in the second half -- missed a pair of tip-in attempts as the clock expired and Lindsey Wilson secured the upset.

Lindsey Wilson shot just 40.4 percent (23-of-57) from the field, but made 42.1 percent (8-of-19) from beyond the three-point arc. Campbellsville finished shooting 46.7 percent (21-of-45), but just 36 percent (9-of-25) in the second half.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 4 p.m. CT on Saturday, February 2, as the Blue Raiders host West Virginia Tech University at Biggers Sports Center.
