COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team won their home opener 3-1 against St. Xavier (Ill.) University on Saturday night.

In front of a strong turn out by their home fans, the Blue Raiders came storming out the gate scoring the game's first two goals, to open a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Sophomore forward Frederick Were scored the game's first goal in the 24th minute off of a perfect cross from freshman forward Besart Mazreku.

Five minutes later Lindsey Wilson was on the run again. In the 29th minute freshman midfielder Alex Linard received a pass from senior midfielder Marshall Forbes and blasted it from 15 feet out into the top corner. The goal extended the Blue Raider lead to 2-0.

In the 61st minute Lindsey Wilson tacked on their third goal of the night as freshman forward Moses Aduny put it in the back of the net. Were set up the Blue Raiders' final goal of the night with a crisp cross right onto Adunys' foot.

St. Xavier got on the board in the 70th minute with a goal by sophomore defender Ernad Dzananovic to cut the lead to 3-1. In the final 20 minutes of the match, Lindsey Wilson took control of the game and basically played keep away from Saint Xavier.

As the clock ran out the Blue Raiders nailed down their first win of the season, 3-1.
