COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team defeated Saint Xavier (Ill.) University 5-1 tonight in the opener of the KELME Classic at Lindsey Wilson Park.
Lindsey Wilson controlled the match from the very beginning. Junior defender Lorna Heaton put one in the back of the net in the tenth minute for the 1-0 lead.
Sophomore midfielder Kimmia Parker nailed one into the top corner in the 21st minute, notching her fifth goal on the young season. Parker was set up beautifully on a cross from freshman forward Louise Christensen.
In the 25th minute Christensen did the scoring. She accepted a pass from junior defender Bryndis Theodorsdottir and flipped it into the left corner to give the Blue Raiders a commanding 3-0 lead.
Saint Xavier scored at the end of the first half off of a free kick by senior midfielder Sarah Scigalski, that made the score 3-1 entering the second half.
Lindsey Wilson continued to pour it on in the second half, scoring two more goals. Christensen added her second goal of the night in the 67th minute and sophomore midfielder Satsuki Kato scored the final goal of the night in the 76th minute to give the Blue Raiders the 5-1 win.
In the opening game of the KELME Classic, Robert Morris (Ill.) College (3-2) defeated Georgetown (Ky.) College (1-4) 5-4. Georgetown led late into the second half until Robert Morris scored two goals in the 67th and 76th minute to take the lead and hold on for the victory.
The KELME Classic continues on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT as Saint Xavier faces Georgetown and approximately 20 minutes after that match Lindsey Wilson will host Robert Morris. All matches played at Lindsey Wilson Park.
