COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer team defeated No. 19 Lee (Tenn.) University 1-0 tonight at Lindsey Wilson Park.
Lindsey Wilson controlled the pace of the game from the beginning, firing shots left and right against Lee goaltender Luidgi Beauzile. Beauzile was strong in net for Lee, saving eight Blue Raider shots in the match.
Lindsey Wilson's best opportunity to score in the first half came when senior midfielder Turlien Romulus' shot went just high from 20 yards out.
Into the half the score was tied 0-0.
The Blue Raiders fired 11 shots in the second half and finally made one stick.
In the 49th minute freshman forward Besart Matrzu pushed the ball down mid-field and dropped a pass off to sophomore forward Frederick Were. Were took the pass and rocketed it past Beauzile in the left corner to give Lindsey the 1-0 lead.
From that point on Lee could only muster two shots, both saved by sophomore goalkeeper Pedro Caetano. The shut out was Caetano's fourth on the season.
The win improves Lindsey Wilson's record to 5-1-0 on the season.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, as the Blue Raiders travel to Cardinal Stritch (MN) University in Edina, Minnesota.
