Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team handed No. 2-ranked Lee (Tenn.) University its first loss of the season with a 3-1 win on Wednesday night at Lindsey Wilson Park.
The No. 4-ranked Blue Raiders (6-1-0) scored a pair of first half goals in dominating fashion and held on in the second half en route to the 3-1 win.
Lindsey Wilson controlled play from the outset putting pressure on the Lee defense and junior goalkeeper Leigha Terry. The Blue Raiders just missed on a trio scoring chances in the first 12 minutes of the match as Terry stopped one shot and a pair just missed the target.
The fourth Lindsey Wilson shot turned out to be the charm as sophomore midfielder Satsuki Kato scored in the 18th minute from deep inside the penalty area to give Lindsey Wilson the 1-0 lead.
Freshman forward Louise Christensen set up the goal with a cross from the left onto Kato's boot. Showing patience just a few yards from the goal, Kato collected the ball and hit it past Terry for her third goal of the season.
"Louise and (Satsuki) Kato were terrific," Burwash said. "They put a lot of pressure on the Lee defense and they really worked well together."
Ten minutes later, Christensen was at it again as she assisted on the Blue Raiders' second goal of the night. In the 28th minute, Christensen fed fellow freshman Ida Gregersen for a laser into the lower left corner for the 2-0 lead. The goal was Gregersen's fourth of the season.
"It was our best half of the season," Lindsey Wilson coach Drew Burwash said of the first half of tonight's match with Lee. "We were mentally prepared to face one of the best teams in the nation and we came out and set the tempo we wanted. It was a great effort from the entire team."
Lindsey Wilson led at the break 2-0.
Following intermission, Lee (6-1-0) turned the tables on the Blue Raiders.
Lee dominated the play for the first 30 minutes of the second half. During that time, Lee out-shot the Blue Raiders 5-1.
At the 50-minute mark, Lee forward Sandra Kaelin hit a rocket from 20 yards out towards the goal. Lindsey Wilson junior goalkeeper Carrie Revlett made the first of three impressive second half saves as she redirected the shot with her left hand over the crossbar.
"Carrie was outstanding tonight," Burwash said. "I thought it was the best game of her career. She came off her line well and when we struggled a bit in the second half, she made some key saves that enabled us to keep the lead."
The Blue Raiders finally regained their composure in the latter stages of the second period and scored their third and final goal of the night.
Christensen capped her night with her fifth goal of the season in the 83rd minute. Sophomore midfielder Kimmia Parker sent a corner kick inside the box and Christensen emerged from the traffic to poke home the goal for the 3-0 lead.
A little more than four minutes later Lee junior midfielder Jenna Achten ended Revlett's clean sheet with a goal at the 86:43 mark to cut the lead to 3-1. Achten -- much like Christensen's goal -- scored from deep inside the penalty area in heavy traffic.
Lee could muster just one last shot in the final three minutes as the Blue Raiders prevailed 3-1.
Lindsey Wilson finished the night with an 11-10 advantage in shots and a 7-6 shots on goal advantage.
Revlett allowed one goal and collected five saves, while Terry allowed three goals and amassed four saves.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Sept. 30 as the Blue Raiders open Mid-South Conference play against Pikeville (Ky.) College at Lindsey Wilson Park.
