Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team used a quick start to the second half and key free throws down the stretch to bookend an upset 67-63 win over No. 12-ranked West Virginia University Institute of Technology tonight at Biggers Sports Center.
The No. 25-ranked Blue Raiders' 16-4 spurt out of the locker room helped Lindsey Wilson (16-3, 3-1 in the Mid-South Conference) turn a four-point halftime deficit into a lead and four free throws inside the final minute helped seal the win.
Lindsey Wilson junior guard Eric McPherson gave the Blue Raiders a 65-60 lead with 36.1 seconds left and sophomore guard Jeremiah Diebler preserved the win with pair of freebies with 15.2 seconds left to give the Blue Raiders the 67-63 win.
After trailing 33-29 at the break, McPherson led the Blue Raider comeback with 10 of his game-high 19 points during the opening half run which gave the Blue Raiders an eight point lead with 13 minutes and 47 seconds remaining in the second half.
Lindsey Wilson would stretch the lead to 10 (50-40) with 12:41 remaining after a three pointer by junior guard Ismar Neto.
The Golden Bears (15-6, 2-2) clawed back with a 16-7 run of their own cutting the Blue Raiders lead to one point after a three pointer by senior forward Sam Robertson with 4:30 remaining. Robertson finished with 12 points on the night.
After back-to-back field goals by West Virginia Tech, LWC junior forward Tim Parker drained a three-pointer with 1:50 remaining to give Lindsey Wilson a three-point lead (63-60) and breaking the final tie of the game. Parker finished with 16 points.
McPherson and Diebler did the rest.
West Virginia Tech. struck early in the first half, leading by nine points after a 17-8 run spanning eight minutes. Freshman forward Ricky Young capped the run with a jumper. Young scored a season-high 16 points.
Lindsey Wilson responded to cut the deficit to four points at halftime.
The Blue Raiders escaped with the win despite being out-rebounded by West Virginia Tech. 39-32 and having more turnovers (23-21). Lindsey Wilson -- who entered the game averaging 5.5 three pointers a game -- made nine threes and shot 37.5 percent (9-of-24) for the game.
Senior center Sam Walton filled the stat sheet with a team-high seven rebounds and four blocks. Walton also had two steals to go along with two points.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 4 p.m. CT on Saturday, Jan. 31, as the Blue Raiders host No. 2-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) College at Biggers Sports Center.
