No. 2 Women's Soccer Blanks Cumberlands 6-0

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College senior defender Yolanda Hamilton scored a goal in the first and second halves to lead women's soccer to a 6-0 shutout of University (Ky.) of the Cumberlands on Wednesday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

The second ranked Blue Raiders improve to 9-2-1 on the season with a 2-0-0 mark in Mid-South Conference action. The Patriots drop to 5-4-0 and 3-1-0 in MSC games.

Five different Blue Raiders scored as Lindsey Wilson rifled off 15 shots with nine on goal, compared to just one shot for the Patriots.

Freshman forward Rebecca Bjorkvall gave the Blue Raiders a quick start with a goal in the 2nd minute.

Freshman midfielder Mia Persson started the play with a corner kick that landed perfectly for Bjorkvall inside the box. Bjorvall's shot hit the bottom of the crossbar before sneaking past Cumberlands sophomore keeper Brittney Gadd.

Persson added to her assist with a goal of her own in the 23rd minute. Freshman midfielder Saeda Sueki lobbed a deep pass to Persson in the middle of the field where she was able to beat her defender and the keeper for an unguarded goal to put the Blue Raiders up 2-0.

After adding an unassisted goal by senior defender Yolanda Hamilton in the 36th minute, Lindsey Wilson entered halftime with a commanding 3-0 lead. The Blue Raiders scored the goals on just five first-half shots while limiting the Patriots to no shot attempts.

Lindsey Wilson added a goal early in the second half as well with freshman forward Maggie Whitfield connecting on a shot past the keeper off an assist from sophomore midfielder Ida Gregersen.

Just four minutes later, Hamilton recorded her second goal of the night with a savvy play near the Patriots goal. Hamilton made a clean break to a loose ball, but was clearly off sides before making a smart play to wait for the keeper to initiate contact and avoid the call.

The Cumberlands keeper, however, lost control of the ball which allowed Hamilton to rip an angled shot into the right corner of the goal and give LWC a five-goal cushion.

Lindsey Wilson finished its scoring onslaught in the 87th minute with its sixth goal by freshman midfielder Julia Persson.

Blue Raider senior keeper Carrie Revlett had a quiet night with just one shot directed toward the Lindsey Wilson goal all night. With the 6-0 win, the senior now has six shutouts on the season. Gadd collected three saves for the Patriots.

The Blue Raiders next action is on the road at 1 p.m. CT on Oct. 13 against MSC-opponent West Virginia Tech.
