Women's Soccer Falls to Point Loma Nazarene 2-0 in NAIA Quarterfinals

Box Score

DECATUR, Ala. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team was shutout after 16 straight games with a goal as it lost to Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) University 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Championship on Wednesday at the Jack Allen Recreation Complex.

Point Loma struck first in the 42nd minute off a free-kick situation from just outside the box. Lindsey Wilson freshman midfielder Patricia Nielsen was called for a foul at the right corner of the box, allowing the Sea Wolves Lauren Hernandez to set up Ashley Adams for the close-range score.

The Blue Raiders weren't without their own chances in the first half, taking five shots, including a header from sophomore Heini Metsola in the 18th minute that sailed just wide.

Point Loma struck six shots in the opening half, while just one - the Adams' goal - was taken from inside the box.

Leading 1-0, the Sea Wolves used a conservative approach in the second half to control the ball and limit Lindsey Wilson's opportunities to tie the game.

The Blue Raiders best chance to score came on a play that resulted with the ball in the back of the net, but no goal.

After a scrum inside the box the Blue Raiders willed a loose ball into the goal, however, the ball was ruled dead after the keeper had controlled the ball inside the huddle of players.

Point Loma put the contest out of reach in the 85th minute with a goal by Alex Fuller from point-blank range off a Kelsey Lundberg assist to make the score 2-0.

Lindsey Wilson finished the game with a 12-10 advantage in shots, while Point Loma put more attempts on goal (8-6).

Blue Raider senior keeper Carrie Revlett and Point Loma's Tiffany Kracy both finished with six saves.

Lindsey Wilson's season ends with a 19-3-2 record after appearing in its ninth straight national tournament. The Sea Wolves improve to 15-4-3 on the season and advance to Friday's semifinals in Decatur.
