Men's Soccer Rolls Over Lindenwood 5-0

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- There was plenty of opportunities for the Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team to celebrate Friday as they racked up five goals against Lindenwood (Mo.) University at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. Five different Blue Raiders scored in the 5-0 win.

Lindsey Wilson freshman midfielder Lebogang Moloto scored the first goal of the game in style.

While racing down the middle of the field in the 25th minute, Moloto popped a pass to sophomore forward Moses Aduny that he instinctively passed back to Moloto inside the box for an easy tap in. The Blue Raiders kept their 1-0 lead heading into intermission.

What started as a quiet game with little scoring turned into an offensive showcase for Lindsey Wilson (2-0-0) in the second period.

Moloto got the action rolling once again with a pass to open sophomore defender Michael Azira. With a clear look at the goal, Azira rifled a deep shot that sneaked past Lion freshman keeper Victor Francoz to put the Blue Raiders up 2-0 in the 57th minute.

Under a minute later, Lindsey Wilson struck again. Aduny found himself in a one-on-one situation with Francoz that he made the most of by sending a powerful close-range shot into the back of the net. In the 84th minute senior midfielder Luis Campo scored on a deep shot that barely made it past the left post.

Leading 4-0 in the 88th minute, freshman midfielder Mat Luak found a way to add to the Blue Raider score. Freshman forward Shamar Shelton started the action by having his shot blocked by Francoz, allowing Luak to find the ball on a long rebound for a line-drive goal.

Lindsey Wilson took 13 shots for the game compared to only two for Lindenwood (0-1-0). Six of the Blue Raiders attempts were at goal. Lindsey Wilson freshman keeper Callum Christie had a relatively quiet game, making only one save.

The Blue Raiders next game is at 1 p.m. CT on Sept. 7 in St. Charles, Mo., against Park University. Lindsey Wilson returns home at 1 p.m. on Sept. 12 against Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College.
