Persson's Career Night Leads Women's Soccer to 12-0 Win over Campbellsville

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College freshman Mia Persson scored five goals to help the No. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team beat visiting Campbellsville (Ky.) University tonight at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (7-2-1, 1-0-0 in the Mid-South Conference) dominated the possession from the beginning en route to out-shooting the Tigers 26-1. Campbellsville falls to 5-3-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in the MSC.

Lindsey Wilson freshman and reigning MSC Offensive Player of the Week Saeda Sueki opened the game's scoring in the 12th minute with her fourth goal of the season to give the Blue Raiders the 1-0 lead. Persson extended the lead to 3-0 with goals in the 29th and 37th minute.

The goals helped the Blue Raiders enjoy a 3-0 lead at the break.

Lindsey Wilson continued to apply the offensive pressure in the second half as senior Yolanda Hamilton pounded home the Blue Raiders fourth goal in the 49th of the game off an assist from Persson. Hamilton finished the night with a goal and an assist.

Persson scored the next three goals in a 10-minute span to extend the lead to 7-0. The Sjobo, Sweden, native's five goals gives her a team-high six goals on the season. Persson added an assist to finish with a career-best 11 points.

Freshman Marlene Schjoldager joined Persson in the multiple goals scored category with the Blue Raiders next two goals. Her unassisted goal in the 62nd minute and her fourth goal of the season in the 64th minute gave Lindsey Wilson a 9-0 lead.

Freshmen Julia Persson and Maggie Whitfield and sophomore Reiko Yosida added goals en route to the 12-0 win.

Lindsey Wilson senior Carrie Revlett had a relatively quiet night finishing with one save. The shutout is her fifth of the season.

Campbellsville goalkeeper Sarah Akers finished the night allowing seven goals in just over 60 minutes. She stopped four Lindsey Wilson shots. Reserve goalkeeper Erin Grimsley allowed five goals while collecting two saves.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, October 2, as the Blue Raiders host No. 5-ranked William Carey (Miss.) College at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
