Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Traling 73-72 with 47.3 seconds left in the game, Kalen Kimberland and Joshua Cherry each made a pair of free throws down the stretch to give the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team a 76-73 win on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.
Andrija Tintor scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Cherry and Kimberland each added 15. The Blue Raiders greatest strength was a 16-for-19 performance from the free-throw line, including a 15-for-15 effort in the second half.
Brandon Russ muscled his way to 22 points and six rebounds in the paint for the Patriots, while Travis Harvey added 17.
A 3-pointer by Nathaniel Mitchell put the Patriots ahead by seven (67-60) with four minutes left in the game, then Lindsey Wilson went on a 10-2 run over the next three minutes until it eventually tied the game at 69 with just under two minutes to play.
Play went back-and-forth with each team taking a pair of one-point leads until Cherry's free throws in the final 10 seconds put the Blue Raiders in front by three. Mitchell's last second attempt to tie the game sailed short as he was smothered by a host of Blue Raiders.
Neither team led by more than two points during the first 10 minutes of the game, however, Cumberlands went on a 14-2 run to extend its lead to 11 (28-17) near the end of the first half. At the break, the Patriots led the game 35-30.
The second half was an up-and-down battle for both squads as the Blue Raiders trimmed the deficit to two points on five occasions. The problem was getting over that hump, which didn't happen until Cherry's free throw with 1:42 to play put Lindsey Wilson up 70-69.
There were 11 ties in the game, including nine lead changes. Cumberlands' largest lead was 11 points, while the Blue Raider's largest advantage was the final margin of three points.
Lindsey Wilson and Cumberlands both blistered the nets from the field. The Blue Raiders shot 60.9 percent, including a 44.4 percent (4-of-9) effort from behind the arc. Cumberlands knocked down 65.1 percent of its shots, including a 4-for-10 showing on 3-pointers.
Both teams totaled just 39 rebounds, as Cumberlands edged the Blue Raiders on the glass 20-19.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Jan. 28 at West Virginia Tech.
