COLUMBIA, Ky. -- After trailing by as many as nine points in the first half, the Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team went on a 20-6 run to close the game and escape with a 70-60 win against Asbury (Ky.) College on Monday at Biggers Sports Center.
Eric McPherson tallied a game-high 17 points and 15 rebounds, while reserve Chase Spreen played a pivotal role in the comeback, hitting 3-of-4 three pointers to finish with 10 points.
Asbury (8-6) was led by Brock Hurtle and Adam Delph with 12 points each. Phillip Morrison added 11 points in the loss.
After a 16-day holiday break, Lindsey Wilson (8-7) struggled to play with energy in the early going.
Despite a brief 3-2 lead with 18 minutes left in the first half, the Blue Raiders didn't regain the lead until a three pointer from Spreen put them ahead 43-42 with 15 minutes to play in the game.
Asbury climbed back ahead by seven (53-46), but Lindsey Wilson began its late run and never looked back. Ismar Neto and Ian Davis played quality minutes down the stretch providing energy on defense that helped put the Eagles away.
Lindsey Wilson shot 40 percent (24-of-60) from the field for the game, while Asbury connected on 41percent (25-of-61) of its attempts. The Blue Raiders controlled the rebound battle 52-25.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Jan. 9 against Marygrove (Mich.) College at Biggers Sports Center in the final tune-up before conference play.
