No. 2 Rio Grande Scores Golden Goal, Nips Men's Soccer in Overtime

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- For the first time since the 2001 season, the seventh ranked Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer team lost a home regular-season conference game.

The second ranked University of Rio Grande's Scott Bibby brought the game to a close in the 92nd minute with an unassisted golden goal to capture the 2-1 win in overtime on Saturday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

On Oct. 2, 2001, Union (Ky.) College beat the Blue Raiders 3-2, on Saturday night however, it looked like early on the Blue Raiders were going about business as usual, taking an early lead on a conference foe.

With a swift pass from Lebogang Moloto, Moses Aduny controlled the ball inside the box for a close-range goal in the 25th minute to put the Blue Raiders in front 1-0.

Rio Grande (16-0, 7-0 MSC) wouldn't counter until the 48th minute with a goal by Roberto Lopes to even the score at 1-1 early in the second half. The rest of the way, neither team got a great chance to put in a game winner, leading to the overtime period.

It took just over a minute and a half for the RedStorm to bring the game to a close with Bibby's quick trigger in the box by Lindsey Wilson (11-2-1, 6-1 MSC) keeper Pedro Caetano.

Caetano finished the game with four saves and the two goals against, while Rio Grande keeper Jonathan Viscosi made four saves as well.

The Blue Raiders led the game in shots 12-7 and corner kicks 7-2, but couldn't come up with the winning goal in overtime with Rio Grande making such quick work of the extra period.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Monday, Oct. 25 against St. Catharine (Ky.) College at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
